Feed Your Friends: Sweet Superfood Desserts and Snacks

We heart sugar. There is still a five-year-old in us that believes that EVERY meal (including breakfast) should be followed by dessert. But sometimes that naggy adult voice kicks in and ruins the fun for everyone saying things like, “But you had chocolate for breakfast YESTERDAY, too!” So: We thought we might as well see if we could mix some superfoods into our sweet-tooth-rotation and we found that indeed, your candy craving can be satiated with something a little less bad for you. These guys contain superfoods that will help your energy, gut, mood, and all that good stuff, and also prevent you from having a five-year-old-style temper tantrum, because guess what? These are so good you can eat dessert first.

Matcha: Matcha is the “It girl” of superfoods and it may be because of her gorgeous green color. Still, she didn’t get her celeb status for nothing: She’s rich in fiber, chlorophyll, vitamin C, zinc, and magnesium, and can be credited for improving moods and concentration, boosting metabolism, aiding detoxification, and calming the mind. Eat it in fudge form and it will DEFINITELY improve your mood.

Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are high in fiber, antioxidants, calcium, fatty acids, and Omega-3s. You’re like: “Okay but what do those DO?” They help your skin stay pretty, prevent metabolic disorders, give you energy, strengthen your bones, and help you stay full for longer. Mix the health benefits (and sheer deliciousness) of blueberries and other fruits in there, and you are really riding the superfood train.

Goji Berries: Goji berries are not just pretty in pink. They are also chock full of beta-carotene, vitamin A, and iron. Basically: they’re great for your eye and kidney health, give you energy, and, even though they’re sweet, they won’t give you a total sugar crash.

Maca: Maca is NOT the same as Matcha, although we often get them confused. The good thing is, they’re both damnnn good for you. So it’s not that serious. Maca is technically a root vegetable and its powder can help you in many ways including balancing your hormones, increasing bone density, and giving you energy. We’ll take it.
