An October Table with an Organic Feel
We love a tablescape. We love china, and linens, and flowers, and hell, feathers. We’d stack our tables to the ceilings with objet if we had the time (and the moola). But let’s face it: we don’t have a GAZILLION dollars to spend on flower arrangements, new candelabras, and a calligrapher to do place cards.
So what are we to do? Give up?! Never, never, never. We think a little table décor is a huge part of the difference between dinner and a dinner party, between weekday and weekend, between food and fete!
In fact, we thought that this tablescape for our dinner for 6 was just what the doctor ordered. It felt Fall cozy, and made the night feel like an event, without feeling fussy or pretentious.
When making a tablescape, here’s what we’re always thinking about:
- What do we already own? How can we build around that?
- Creating layers – are there unexpected pieces we can pair together, layer, and mix and match?
- Candles! There should never be a table without candles! Candles = magic.
Here’s what we went for with our organic-feeling October table.
What we had to work with:
*1 set of crystal candlesticks
*1 set of lace art silver candlesticks
*1 Chilewich silver runner
*Match pewter tableware
*Blue and silver napkins
*2 hurricanes
What we bought:
*a burlap runner from Amazon ($10)
*white pumpkins from the farmer’s market (We’re sort of obsessed with white pumpkins, and loved how they picked up the white of the china) ($10)
*green flowers and foliage from the bodega (we weaved long vines around the candlesticks and hurricanes to create a messy, wild feeling) ($15)
This tablescape would work with any kinds of candles or china and we love the white as a twist on the orange pumpkins and gourds we’re going to be seeing for a while now. No hate for the orange. We’re just all about this white.
Bing. Bang. Boom. A tablescape that won’t break the bank.
