We’ll Always Have… New York?

It’s Spring, so naturally you’re going to Paris. You’re going to shop Rue Saint-Honoré, eat escargots, sip rosé, wear stripes, dance late into the night at Silencio, and all that. It’s just what you do when it’s Spring.

Wait, you’re not?

Don’t worry, neither are we. Well, the good news for our fantasy version of ourselves is that New York is having a major French moment. From Cherche Midi to Le District, to uber-cool Rebelle, New Yorkers this Spring can pretend to be Parisian at more places than ever.

Next in this lineup is La Gamelle, which stands out for being unfussy, lively, and not too concerned with food trends. Rather than updated versions or seasonal twists, La Gamelle presents the classics: everything from the décor to the menu is recognizable, authentic-feeling, and unpretentious. We rocked escargots, foie gras, duck confit, and moules frites, with martinis and rosé for good measure. The food wasn’t absurdly priced. The waiters were oh-so-nice; we felt like we could come back and eat the same thing again and again.

We left feeling full, French, and sort of like: Who needs Paris, anyway?
