Sessanta: Date Night Dilemma, Solved

There may be no better antidote to the date night dinner doldrums than a hotel restaurant. Hotels feel adventurous and treat-yoself-ey. Done right, just going to dinner at one can give you a taste of that sweet, sweet, vacation feeling. You feel us?

That’s how we felt at Sessanta, the coastal Italian restaurant at the revamped Sixty Soho hotel. The restaurant and adjoining bar, The Gordon, have a retro, ‘70s vibe and a sparse European aesthetic. Think wood and earthy materials and dim, distinctive lighting.

The menu gets going with Sicilian street foods (Cibo Siciliano di Strada, if you must know). These are small plates like arancini, meatballs, and fritto misto, perfect for sharing. We went on to rock braised octopus, and (duh) pasta – tortelli with sardines and saffron – then we threw in a pork chop, just ’cause. While the setting made us feel swank, the food was reminiscent of that on a tiny island in Italy. The combo was magical.

There’s no need to end date night after dessert; after din, you can cozy up at the restaurant’s bar, or hit up the Gordon lounge next door for a nightcap. Unless you’re ready to splurge for the penthouse suite, in which case, you should definitely do that.
