Broomstick Cookies

Broomstick cookies are brown sugar cookies that are gooey and sort of taste like doughnuts. This recipe makes A LOT of ’em, so they’re perfect to make a batch for yourself, a batch for a friend, and a batch to bring to a party.

Ingredients
  • 3 cups brown sugar
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup dark or light karo syrup or corn syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • ¾ cup raisins
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 4 ½ tsp. baking soda
  • 6 ½ cups flour
Tips
  • Powdered sugar frosting can be made many ways. We make ours with 1 cup confectioner's sugar, ½ teaspoon vanilla, and a ½ tablespoon
  • of milk.
  1. Preheat Oven 350° F.
  2. Mix all ingredients until they are the consistency of pie dough.
  3. Shape into broomstick-sized rolls. Place lengthwise onto a cookie sheet. We recommend one roll per sheet.
  4. Bake for 15-20 min.
  5. Let stand a few minutes and then frost or drizzle with powdered sugar frosting. Slice diagonally.
