Indoor and Outdoor Options: August Events in NYC

Summer has been hot, hot, hot and we have no shame in sometimes admitting that we’d rather be in the AC. We’ve rounded up the best August events in NYC, with indoor and outdoor options, so you can cool down under the stars, or watching them… on a big ol’ movie screen.

Throughout August: Nitehawk Cinema

The Nitehawk Cinema’s brunch screenings are the perfect way to beat the heat, but still be able to say that you left your apartment. We recommend seeing Jenny Slate in Obvious Child, because you’ll probably fall in love with her.

This annual literature series, curated by local bookstores, showcases work from today’s best writers. This year Eowyn Ivey (finalist for the Pulitzer Prize), Idra Novey, and Rebecca Schiff are on the docket.

August 1 – 19: NY Restaurant Week

We think that Restaurant Week is the best excuse to eat three-course meals for every meal, for two weeks, not one.

August 1 – 27: Harlem Week

Okay, Harlem Week is not a week, it’s, like, a month, and we’re cool with that. We’re most excited about FOOD, duh, but also about the Prince tribute concert.

August 4 & 11: Broadway in Bryant Park

The biggest shows on Broadway descend on Bryant Park to perform their greatest hits. Perfect if you want a sampling, and not necessarily the whole show.
