Saturday City: Staycation Destinations in NYC

Stop stalking your friends’ vacation Instagrams. We repeat: Stop stalking your friends’ (and frenemies’) vacation Instagrams. “But if I can’t be there,” you say, “why can’t I at least look at it?” We hear ya. And we’re sick of having Europe/Beach/Boat FOMO, too. And now that Summer is (gasp!) almost over… we’re determined to do something about it. We’re going to staycay just like we vacay and the truth is, there’s no city better to do it in. Here, our fave staycation destinations in NYC. So stop complaining and make a reservation, ya heard?

You’re On a Boat (Sort Of): The Maritime Hotel

The Maritime Hotel is an NYC staple, with its porthole windows and kooky nautical glamor. If you really want to ball out, book one of the terrace suites, which have outdoor rain showers and Japanese gardens. Ballin’ on a budget? Book a room and order room service from the new Mario Batali restaurant, La Sirena, or get touristy (in the good way) with a decadent dinner at Tao.

Going Under the Radar: The Marmara Park Avenue

The Marmara Park Avenue is one of NYC’s best kept secrets. The hotel itself is decorated beautifully, but what has us staycation-psyched is the wellness center, which features gorgeous Turkish baths, a pool, and an experience shower. Our other favorite feature? It’s pet-friendly. Let’s go, Fido.

There’s a Reason It’s Trendy: Gansevoort Meatpacking

Want to staycay but maybe also club and shop and, like, take pics of yourself on cobblestone streets? We call that doing as the tourists do, and guess what? They’re having a lot of fun. Just make sure you’re a good little tourist and check out the highline and the Whitney before you hit Jeffrey and lounge by the pool, then dine at Zerzura, the Gansevoort’s new rooftop lounge with 360 degree views of the city.
