Be My Valentine: Curated Guide V-Day Cards from Quill Society

Remember V-Day when you were little? Doodling, stickering, and glittering Valentine’s day boxes and stuffing them full of cards from all your BFF’s and candies from that not-so-secret crush? We fully admit that we miss that. In fact, Lizzie hasn’t let age stop her from all the stickering and bubble-lettering and Gelly Rolls from days of yore. But both of us agree that V-Day is the perfect excuse to rock some cute stationary, and write a little love note to a pal.

Quill Society shares the same love and admiration for paper goods and stationary as we at Fete-a-Tete do. We thought  Valentine’s Day was the perfect reason to get the 411 from founder and editor Rachel. We dished with her about love letters, handwritten notes, and the beauty of a small, thoughtful gesture.

Why did you want to start the site? How did you first come to love stationary?

I’ve always loved beautiful stationery and used to make my own cards to ensure that I had something truly special to give everyone I loved. When I got married, my obsession with paper resurfaced, and I found so many talented designers that were mostly unknown. I started Quill Society as a way for people with busy lives to easily access these amazing cards for every occasion.

Who are your favorite designers/places to find new pieces?

I have so many favorites. To name a few: cards by The Great Lakes Goods are so much fun, no cards make me laugh like those by Emily McDowell and Paper Epiphanies, I can always count on Hartland Brooklyn for something feminine and elegant, Mr. Boddington for something clever and whimsical, Parrott Design for simple and classy letterpress, sugar paper for classic wedding cards, and Farewell Paperie for subtle humor.

What is your favorite hostess card?

In general, when it comes to hostess cards, I keep it simple. Right now I’m into everything marble, so I love these thank you cards. They also make them in a boxed set so you can always have a card on hand. For florals, I love Rifle Paper Co. Pretty Girl Paper Co. is a new company that has created some great, classic thank you notes. And they all come with gorgeous liners, which is even better!

What’s your favorite holiday or time to send cards? Can you give us your favorite Valentine’s Day Cards?

I send cards for anything and everything, but I particularly love giving cards to my husband – for birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, holidays, and to celebrate accomplishments… because I know we can look at them forever and get taken back to that special moment.
