Restaurant Rolodex: The New New Hitting NYC

New restaurants are New Yorkers’ bread and butter. They like to go to them, they like to talk about them, they like to judge them, but mostly, it’s important to know about them. Knowing new restaurants in this city is a currency in itself. When that friend you’ve been meaning to get together with for months says, “Where should we go?” you want your answer to show that you’re, like, up on things. I mean. Maybe. Who knows? Maybe you just like new restaurants. Here are some we’re excited about that have recently opened or are coming soon.

Open Now

Are the Aussies taking over NYC? Maybe. The owners of Banter met at Aussie café Two Hands, and have now opened Banter. Expect salads, sandwiches, and sweet potato smash.

169 Sullivan Street, New York, NY 10012

Jean-Georges’ vegetarian restaurant is not just for vegans and vegetarians. The new breakfast and lunch spot (with a great takeaway window) is eclectic, fresh, and will convert any meat lover that meatless Monday should definitely be a thing.

38 E. 19th Street, New York, NY 10003

Pinch Chinese
Soup, dumplings, and so much more from a veteran NYC chef.

177 Prince Street, New York, NY 10012

Another LA import (a la Sugarfish), this hand roll bar with only bar seating is offering up homemade sauces, specially sourced seafood, and yeah, hand rolls.

15 W. 28th Street, New York, NY 10003

Cocoa V
An choco-centric dessert and pastry shop shop where everything is GF, dairy-free, and kosher. That should pretty much cover it.

The Hideout
File this under “Things We Didn’t Know We Needed”: A place that specializes in homemade chai.

42 Rivington Street, New York, NY 10002

De Maria
The new Soho restaurant with an all-female team looks like it’s going to appeal to everyone. We’re looking to try the dragon bowls, billionaire bacon, and chocolate chestnut waffles.

19 Kenmore Street, New York, NY 10012

You know what? We love pizza joints that are nice enough for a date night. This is one. Welcome, Mandolino!

137 E. 13th Street, New York, NY 10003

Well, we know this: We’re into the name (It means “poor-mannered”). So we have to assume we’ll like this new Latin spot on Avenue C.

185 Avenue C, New York, NY 10009

Pretty Southern
Yummy comfort food in Greenpoint. Think: crispy chicken, collard greens, and all that yum. But what else? Biscuits with bourbon butter.

14 Bedford Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11222

Okay, file this under “Things We DID Know We Needed”: A brick and mortar shop where they serve raw (safe-to-eat!) cookie dough.

550 LaGuardia Place, New York, NY 10012

Gotham Market @ Ashland
The new Gotham Market is not messing around: Boqueria, Egg & The Bird, and The Crabby Shack are a few of the vendors you can expect to find here. Food Hall aficionados, rejoice.

Opening Soon

Made Nice (Any Day Now)
I’m not sure we need to go any further than to say that this restaurant is the fast casual sibling of Eleven Madison Park and The NoMad. Daniel Humm and Will Guidara can do no wrong. So we will be eating lunch here a lot.

8 W. 28th Street, New York, NY 10001

Monroe (Any Day Now)
Paella and eggplant parm are both on the menu of this new Two Bridges joint, where you can sit and have a meal. How civilized!
