Restaurant Rolodex: End of the Month Cheap Eats

Maybe you’ve given up some of your New Year’s Resolutions (Hello #DryJanuary)… But that doesn’t mean you need to throw them all out. If one of your New Year’s ressies was to spend a little less (ours was!), or your wallet’s just feelin’ a li’l tight at the end of the month, we feel you. But as always, we don’t think that’s any excuse to not have any fun. So, here’s a list of Cheap Eats so you can keep being your fun and fancy free self without fretting that you’re going broke.

Spaghetti Incident
231 Eldridge St.
 NY, NY 10002
(646) 896-1446

A cozy LES Italian spot with delicious, simple pastas and salads at great prices. Oh and you can take it to go, in a cone. Yes, in a cone. Genius.

Raclette
195 Avenue A NY, NY 10009
(917) 853-5377

Yes, it’s named for the French comfort food: Think glorious, melted cheeses on top of perfectly roasted potatoes. But this cute little East Village spot is now serving croques, tartines, and new raclette recipes in a charming, rustic spot that is also BYOB.

The Burger Joint
33 West 8th St. NY, NY 10011
(212) 432-1400

This isn’t the place for the fancy, $30 NYC burger. Burger Joint serves perfectly cooked patties in a greasy brown paper bag. Now with two locations in NYC (and outposts in South Korea and Dubai), the original hidden away gem is located in Le Parker Meridien Hotel, but we’ll be at their new downtown location in Greenwich Village. Stocked with everything you need for a classic burger date: cheeseburgers, fries, milkshakes, and pitchers of beer.

Diner (Brooklyn)
85 Broadway Brooklyn, NY 11249
(718) 486-3077

From the same guys that brought you Marlow & Sons and Reynard, Diner is Williamsburg’s best place for diner food done nicely. With a new menu every day, they are serious about their food, but not about themselves.

Kiki’s
130 Division St. NY, NY 10002
(646) 882-7052

This tiny, Greek restaurant on the LES opened this past year and has been packed with everyone from hipsters to Greek enthusiasts who’ve lived in the ‘hood for 30 years. Don’t be confused by the Chinese sign above the place, this is the right address. The menu is expansive and everything is delicious. Beware, there are usually long waits and lots of bars around. This could be a good thing or a bad thing.

Vezzo
178 Lexington Ave. NY, NY 10016
(212) 839-8300

A long time favorite ultra thin crust pizza spot with wine on tap and plenty of house beers. It’s a Murray Hill mainstay that is a quick and easy dinner for 2 or 10.

Hometown Bar-B-Que
454 Van Brunt St. Brooklyn, NY 11231
(347) 294-4644

Head to Red Hook for an authentic Texas-style BBQ with a real Texas town feel. By that we mean this place has awesome food and it’s BIG. It’s some of the best brisket and pulled pork in the city and is great for big groups or just a chill date. You’re chill, right?
