NYC Adventures: Because Sometimes You Want to Do More than Go to Dinner

December is particularly lovely in NYC. Everything feels festive and fun and like there’s an adventure around every corner. But then, when you have that night where you think, “Let’s do something besides just dinner…” your mind goes blank. So, we’ve rounded up some of our fave experiences around NYC for those nights when you want to do something a little different than din.

Live Jazz @ The Django
You’ll feel transported and like you’re oh-so-cool in this underground jazz club at The Roxy Hotel, where dance parties frequently ensue.

Where to Eat or Drink Around Live Jazz: Belle Reve

Then She Fell
A Sleep-No-More-esque immersive thater experience based on the writings of Lewis Carroll. Think Alice in Wonderland, but darker. In addition to participating in the play, you’ll be served special concoctions from some of Brooklyn’s best mixologists. This is a rabbit hole we’re ready to fall down.

The Magician @ The Nomad
A magic show at one of our favorite places to hang? This is why we love NYC.

Classic and IndieFilms @ The Metrograph
The Metrograph theater on the Lower East Side specializes in classics and indies – it’s basically a curated selection of movies you should see. That, and they have a dope restaurant with a full bar decked out to look like a movie set in Old Hollywood.

Where to Eat or Drink Around The Metrograph: Dimes

White Rabbit/Red Rabbit
This play is unlike any other for a few reasons: One, it’s performed by a different actor each night. Two, the actor performing it has never read the script. The play which has gotten great reviews has attracted super-famous actors and lesser known ones, too; the actors are announced on the website a few days before the performance.

Selected Shorts @ Symphony Space
Live actors read short fiction on stage – sometimes the event has a theme, other times it’s curated by an individual – an exciting way to see great actors (think Paul Giamatti) in an intimate setting.

Comedy Cellar
A total classic and one that we never get sick of. Have some drinks and nachos and watch the best stand-up; if you cross your fingers you may get lucky and have a legend pop in to do a set – think Louis C.K., Dave Attell, Chris Rock – which happens more often than you might think.
