Cool Kids on the Block: Summer’s Must Have Eats in NYC

Let’s face it: Good ol’ NYC can be a little brutal in the Summer. Some days are magical, yes, but others are sweaty, smell like garbage, and have us all like, “Why do we live here again?” Luckily, restaurateurs around the city are slinging Summer-special-cooldown treats that exemplify what’s great about this (hot AF) concrete jungle. So if you’re wondering why you don’t live in, say, Antarctica, just remember: They probably don’t have burrata soft serve there.

Dom. Ansel Taco

Dominique Ansel Kitchen: Seasonal Flavors and New Inventions
137 7th Ave. South New York, NY 10001

DA always keeps us guessing and the cronut-inventor is not disappointing this summer. Burrata ice cream’s still going strong at the ice cream window along with a newcomer: the Ice Cream Taco (sweet-corn ice cream, masa waffle cone “taco shell,” a swirl of roasted corn caramel, lime zest, sea salt, and smoky salsa verde on the side), created with DA’s Mexican-cuisine-genius pal Alex Stupnak (of the Empellon empire).

Pressed Juicery Freeze
Only at the 111th St. location

Pressed Juicery is not only one of our favorite juice shops, they are now a favorite frozen dessert destination. While we WISH that their frozen, cold-pressed juices were at every location, for now they’re just up by Columbia. College kids have all the fun, huh? Well, we’re getting in touch with our inner sorority girls and squealing our way uptown for frozen green juice with all the guilt-free toppings we desire .

Do we have to say more than matcha soft serve? We didn’t think so.

Yes, you heard that right, there’s now a museum dedicated to ice cream. Here, you can eat some of the best in the city and learn a thing or two, too!

Dolce Brooklyn

Want ice cream but think you’re, like, sophisticated? Dolce Brooklyn has lavender blueberry or strawberry basil sorbet and plan to add savory flavors like avocado and parmesan. Sound crazy? So did burrata ice cream.

Alta Linea at The Highline Hotel’s Frozen Negroni and Frozen Limoncello
180 10th Ave. New York, NY

What’s better than a negroni? A frozen Negroni. Hat’s off to the Highline Hotel’s new Italian restaurant for thinking of what we all should have. Frozen negronis and limoncellos are the perfect way to cool down after highline-hoppin’.

The Gander’s Frozen El Jimador Slushie
15 W 18th St. New York, NY 10011

One of our fave go-to happy hour spots serves up a tequila slushy? This is the stuff summer dreams are made of. Happy Hour starts at 10 am, right?

Loopy Doopy’s Prosecco & Ice Pop Cocktail
102 North End Ave. New York, NY 10282

When you’re on a rooftop, overlooking one of the best views of Manhattan, you’re probably crazy if you don’t want a glass of bubbly with an ice pop in it. Make it happen this summer at the Loopy Doopy, ya heard?

Extra Fancy’s Frozémonade (or Frozen Rosé Lemonade) and Frozen G & T
302 Metropolitan Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11211

We first heard about this Williamsburg favorite from our pals Marvin and Parker after Dishing with them about their favorite places in BK and boy were we happy when we heard they have some summer frozen cocktails that are exactly what you need on a post Brooklyn Flea Market Sunday afternoon.
