Dishing with Parker and Marvin of Soulcycle and General NYC Fame

Parker and Marvin are a totally dynamic duo. You might know them as superstar SoulCycle instructors (you’ve got to be at your computer at 12 o’clock to get ’em), but that doesn’t even scratch the surface. Marvin’s globe-trotted teaching fitness on a billion continents (yes, a billion) and danced for Nike; and Parker? Oh, he’s a DJ now, too. They’re also fly dressers, and totally coveted party guests, so we caught up with them to chat about how they like to party, in the hopes of getting cooler (and more attractive) through osmosis.

What’s the first thing you notice when you walk into someone’s party? It’s okay to be a l’il judgmental.

The music – it tells you everything about the host’s intention for the night. Is it a rager? An intimate get-together? The music will tell you.

What’s your favorite cocktail to serve or be served? Any favorite party snacks?

We both love tequila and are always down for a marg. We make our signature truffle popcorn for every party.

Where are your favorite spots to eat, drink, and let loose?

We like to keep it in Brooklyn. We love eating and drinking at Extra Fancy, but our signature spot is La Superior in South Williamsburg. Great food, cocktails – it’s intimate – the best! The bartender knows us. If it’s a “going out” night, we’ll see who’s playing at Verboten or head to Bushwick to dance at Bossa Nova.

We imagine that you’re constantly being asked to provide the party playlists. What kind of music best complements your entertaining style? Any great suggestions for our next party?

We’re famous for pre-outings at our apartment and like to keep the music loungey to start. Parker’s always in charge of the playlists- they will usually start softer and slowly take the energy up as the night goes on. It’s smart to start chill and build throughout the night. We’d probably start our next party by playing some of the new Miguel album mixed with some beats from Hercules and the Love Affair.

When you host at home, what role do you each play? Do either of you cook? If so, what do you make?

Parker preps the tunes, invites the guests, and takes over as social butterfly. Marvin keeps things tidy as we go along. He’s great at taking charge and checking in on everyone. He also keeps time in case we are planning on going out.

Any favorite date night spots?

We love going to Ruby’s in Nolita. Small, comfy nook with delicious Australian eats. A great atmosphere.

If you could party with one person – living or dead – who would it be?

M: Parker Posey – I think she’d be hilarious.

P: Young Stevie Nicks.
